Twists and Turns

Life has a way of providing us with unscheduled turns.  Two years ago when I began my blog I was full of ideas and excitement and then something happened.  I am not sure why, but I did not write another blog for several months and then my life turned into a whole new direction.  In December of 2014 I suddenly decided to go back to school, this time in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.  Talk about a twist in a new direction.  It was a sudden decision and when I began classes January 5, 2015 everything changed.  Now as it happens I am taking a business class in school which is guiding me back toward the direction of writing my blog, with a new twist.  I am still passionate about discussing ideas for personal health and healing, but this time I will be adding additional depth with thoughts on how Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine might also contribute to our healthy living processes

There is an old saying that “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” (author unknown).  I have always appreciated those words because if we can follow our hearts even in  the rough times, and stay tuned into what feels good to us, then things have a way of working themselves out, and many times for much better.  So when life gives you a great big twisty curve, then stay the course, make some lemonade and allow your heart to guide you through the process to what comes next……..because something always does.  How you handle it determines the possibilities of how it turns out.  Stay positive, go with the flow of it, and follow your heart.

Health comes in many forms

I started this blog so that we could have discussions on health and healing and its many faces. Health comes in many forms and there are many tools to regaining vibrancy and vitality.

Today I focus on choices that we make and how they might work for us or against us. The main theme here is that when we make choices about our life, and yes even our daily life, they need to be choices that fulfill us rather than send us into dread, regret or just apathy. So many times we let other people influence our decisions into a direction that we don’t really want to go………Why? just because……….. I will illustrate with a story.

As many of you know, I started Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine School January, 2015. It is a 4 year program with no summers off!!!! For those who know me, this does not bear well with my personality, I like my freedom! I decided to go back to school because I am fascinated with mind-body-spiritual healing and health and I was due to do something new. I made an agreement with myself to go for one year full-time and then reassess. Well that reassessment time has come and gone as I am midway into my second year and feeling pretty overwhelmed all of the time………Not what I want for myself.

Recently I began thinking about slowing down in school and having more time to do the things I miss such as visiting with friends, working in my yard, exercising and running my business. WOW! I don’t have to do this program at such a pace for me that I am unhappy. I can do it differently…………, no, no we are supposed to go strong and get through it, is the voice in the back of my head. Have you ever had these conversations with yourself?

I know the choice that is right for me is the one that when I make it, I feel good inside. Imagine that, the choices that are good for us are those that we feel good inside when we make them! Oh that is so contrary to so many belief systems. Deciding to go back to school was one of those crazy choices that most would say no, no, no to and I am so happy that I made it. Now I get to fine tune and make the process fit my needs better. I want to enjoy my life TODAY! If not now when, and all it takes here is a little fine tuning to make it purr.

So look at your life and check your insides to see if there are things you are doing, or not doing that are not feeling good to you. Sometimes the process takes a bit of creativity, but there are always other ways.

Oh, and by the way, Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine School are AMAZING at AIMC Berkeley. I am thrilled to be a part of the program and a part of the wonderful school. The decision to go definitely changed my life into a better direction, now to get it to purr.

WELCOME to my new blog!  I am so excited this is finally happening.  I have spent my entire life thinking about how I can be happier and how I can feel better.  I was lucky to have a father that was a physician who was ahead of his time and very much into preventative medicine.  In my youth we would be driving in the family car and he would be reading Prevention Magazine in the back seat of the car (while my mom always drove) telling us all about the fascinating new information on healthy living.  I used to soak it all up in my young brain and get very excited about how I could make my own life better.

I was the one in the family that turned to non-fat milk (back when it was considered to be healthier) and ate only whole grain bread (rather than white) again when it was deemed to be healthier, in an attempt to better myself.  I did this all because my dad would tell me what was best to do and I was trying to be the best that I could.  When I was a teenager, my dad gave me a book on how to Parent your Teenager which I read with passion.  I learned so many beginning skills on communication that it sent me on a life long mission of learning to understand all about communication and peaceful living, which I still work at today.

Because of this early upbringing, I chose to go into the educational fields of Fitness and Psychology in an attempt to better understand our bodies and to better understand our minds.  I knew (because my dad said so, ha ha) and because I had one of those gut feelings that combining the inner workings of the mind and the fitness of the body was going to be very important in finding our truest health and happiness. 

So finally, I get to bring those two worlds together here with you on this blog site.  I am still passionate about the interrelationship of the mind and body and how it affects our health and happiness.  With this blog I intend to have it be a forum where we can all have conversations about knowledge, questions, struggles and successes that we all have during the journey of living healthier and happier lives.  Each week I intend to post a blog on information, education or just something that I have been inspired by in attempt to promote information, show support and open up conversation.  Will you join me on this journey? 

I dedicate this blog to my parents Pat & Loreli, for teaching me to strive and to know that anything is possible; and for always supporting me no matter what.
